Zelim
Edinburgh maritime-safety company founded by mariner Sam Mayall combining AI detection with unmanned rescue craft: ZOE, a computer-vision man-overboard/object detection and tracking system trained on a proprietary maritime dataset of 9.5M+ annotated objects; SWIFT, a conveyor-based person-overboard recovery system; and Guardian, a rescue vessel that can be crewed or remotely operated. ZOE has been deployed in the oil & gas sector, trialled with Ocean Winds at a floating wind farm off Portugal, selected by Ambassador Cruise Line, and in February 2026 BC Ferries contracted ZOE for four new hybrid-electric ferries (installation from 2027). Zelim also signed a CRADA with the US Navy's NUWC Newport to trial ZOE for USV detection - a dual-use sideline to its civilian maritime-safety business.
