AERAS pairs a sub-6 kg quadcopter with a six-axis manipulator arm whose joints use maxon flat EC brushless motors and EPOS4 position/current controllers; the arm dynamically counteracts drone motion so the end effector stays stable during in-air contact inspections. The system uses stereo vision and adaptive stabilisation for autonomous work at height, with a modular end effector for NDT probes and future jet-washing/painting tools, and a real-time analysis platform for defect mapping and trend tracking. Payload capacity is up to 3 kg. The second prototype (MKII) was slated for a first live-project deployment in summer 2025.
