Apparel Robotics
Apparel Robotics develops hardware and software for autonomous garment manufacturing, attacking the deformable-object handling problem that has kept clothing production manual. Its proprietary grippers generate lift like an aircraft wing to pick up porous, soft fabric pieces, and machine-learning and computer-vision models handle perception, pick-and-place and manipulation of fabric-like materials for robotic garment assembly. The MassRobotics resident startup received a $100K MassTech non-dilutive grant via the MassRobotics Accelerator and a further $275,107 MassTech award (matched with over $1M including ARM Institute funds) to develop a robotic garment assembly system, with applications extending to medical, automotive and aerospace textiles.
